Dating can be an expensive business.  All those nights out hoping to meet somebody soon add up. There’s the cost of drinks, new outfits, taxis and possibly babysitters to think about. It’s no wonder that many women find the expense too much to bear. But in actual fact, dating doesn’t need to be that expensive. If we’re a little savvy about it, then there are lots of ways we can save money.

What makes dating so expensive?

These days, night out don’t come cheap. If you’re trying to get yourself out there and onto the dating scene, then you’re probably going to be heading for multiple nights out. The costs soon add up, and that’s before you’ve even met somebody to date! There are lots of hidden costs to nights out that we don’t always consider. The chances are that you’ll be having an alcoholic drink or two, so you’ll probably need to get a taxi home. That means you’ll probably need to get a taxi there too! Then there is the cost of childcare if you’ve got kids and you’re not fortunate enough to have anyone to help out. Then there’s the cost of drinks, and maybe entry to bars or clubs.

Most of us can cope with these costs as a one off. But when you’re hoping to get back in the dating saddle, you could go on many nights out before finally meeting somebody you like. And then you’ve got the costs of going out on dates!

I’m not trying to be a killjoy here, but all of these costs soon add up. Money has a nasty habit of taking the fun out of things!

We are really fortunate these days that we have access to the world wide web. We can get access to pretty much anything we want from the comfort of our own homes, and dating is no exception!

You can use a free dating site to meet somebody online without it costing you a penny. That’s a huge bonus when you’re trying to cut back on your spending. If online dating appeals to you, then sometimes the ongoing costs can be a real turn off, especially if you’re not meeting anybody you like. Free sites make the whole process pain free, so they’re definitely worth investigating.

Dating sites such as also give you the chance to get to know somebody a little better before going to the effort and expense of meeting them face to face.

Pace yourself

When you are on a date, it’s normal these days to split the bill. So if money is an issue, you should pace your alcoholic drinks. You don’t want to come across as stingy, but take your time over each drink. It’s also a good idea to alternate each alcoholic drink with a glass of water. Not only will that help to cut back on how much money you spend, but it will also help you to keep your wits about you too.

Go on a free or cheap date

In the summer months, you could go for a cheap date in the park. Take a picnic and a big blanket and it doesn’t need to cost a lot. Picnics can actually be really romantic and they’re a great way to get to know somebody away from the hustle and bustle of bars and clubs.

You could also cook a meal at home, or have a movie night in your front room. Get some snacks in from the supermarket, choose a DVD together and you’re ready to go.

Choose somewhere local

If the costs of taxis are the problem, think about meeting somewhere within walking distance from your home. This will save you a fortune and make it really handy to get home quickly if your date’s not going well!

Make sure that you think about how you’ll get home safely if you are walking home alone after dark.
